ODMS Audio Issue: Troubleshooting Guide for Olympus Professional Transcription Software

ODMS audio issue is one of the most common problems some professionals encounter. This is when they don’t hear their recordings or dictations. At this point, they may start to panic or worry. If you’re one of them, keep calm. It’s not time to worry just yet. This is quite a common issue and guess what? The solution can be easy. First, let’s try to troubleshoot and find the solution to the issue with these simple steps:

Volume control is the key

There are two volume control settings that you will need to check on – your computer’s and the software’s volume control.

Computer Volume Settings

For Windows-operated computers, the volume icon is usually found at the bottom right corner of the screen. Click on the volume icon and make sure to turn it on and turn the volume to its maximum level.

For MAC, you can usually find the volume at the top right corner of the screen. Click on the volume icon and make sure to turn it on and turn the volume to its maximum level.

If in any case, your computer doesn’t detect an audio device, please contact a professional computer technician to check your computer and assist you with this specific problem.

Now that we’ve taken care of the volume control on your computer, let’s check the volume settings on the software.

Software Volume Settings

  1. Click on the volume icon
  2. Make sure there’s no “X” mark on it
  3. Adjust the volume to max

If you still can’t hear anything, your dictation may not have a recorded file. You will know there is a recording if the meter goes up and down when you play the file. If it’s not moving, you might have to record again.

Test the Audio Device

The last step will be testing your audio device. If there are any error messages during this troubleshooting process, please contact an IT professional or your computer technician. Let’s get going!

For Windows PC:

  1. Right-click on the volume control and click on Playback devices.
  2. Right-click the appropriate audio device and click “Test” to play a sound.
  3. You should now hear a test sound and the level meter will move up and down.
  4. Now ensure that the audio device is set as the default device as indicated by the green tick. If it’s not the default device, then right-click the device and select “Set as Default Device”.

For MAC:

  1. Click on the Apple icon and click on “System Preferences”.
  2. Click on “Sound”
  3. Select the appropriate audio device to test by clicking on the drop-down box for “Play sound effects through:”
  4. Select and click the alert sound. You should now hear the test sound.
  5. To ensure that you have the correct device selected for the audio output, click on the “Output” tab.
  6. Lastly, select a device.

You should be hearing your dictation at this point. Should you need professional help with your computer, please contact your IT technician. For dictation and transcription software or other product inquiries, please call Copia at +61 8 82235590 today.
